Meadow Hopper
Two leaf-like ears above the meadow may be the only warning that a grazer has been watching you all along.
Behaviour & interactions
Meadow Hoppers pause in cover with their ear fins turned towards movement. Long hind limbs carry them away in sudden bounds. Their narrow grazing paths weave between the stems, keeping shelter close to the feeding ground.
Habitat & range
Found in open meadow beside damp, sheltered ground such as wetland or flowering cover. Connected grazing space and nearby water allow a refuge to support more than a fleeting visitor.
Diet
Feeds on natural Forage in living meadow. The Mossmite colony supports its habitat and is not its prey. Crowded grazing can deplete the local food supply, so a green-looking refuge is not always a well-fed one.
Place in the living web
A founding grazer of the open-land food chain. Its population supports Grass Foxes and Cliffwings, linking the meadow to woodland edges and rocky aeries.
